Frequently Asked Questions
You Asked, We Answered
Help Center
Is your honey 'raw'?
Yes, all of our honey products are all-natural, untreated and cold strained. We make every effort to ensure that all of the natural goodness is retained in every jar, just as nature intended. We don’t include any additives, or use any heat within the honey extraction process. The honey comes straight from the hive, is coarse strained and poured into jars by hand. Simple and straightforward.
Is your honey organic?
It is sadly not possible to produce organic honey in the UK. This is because the bees fly in a 5-mile radius and forage freely. There is nowhere large enough to guarantee that someone hasn’t used pesticides in their garden/in hedgerows/or fields. All organic honey available in the UK has been imported and is not British produce. All of our honey comes from the heart of rural Berkshire and the apiaries are situated on fields as far away as possible from the use of any pesticides.
Does Dower House Honey contain any additives I should be aware of?
No. The honey comes straight from the hive, is coarse strained and poured into jars by hand. Simple and straightforward. We never heat our honey or add anything to it, so it retains all its natural properties.
My honey has gone crystalline, is this normal?
Crystallisation is a natural process and a sign of a good quality honey. Far from harming the quality of the honey, it actually helps to preserve its flavour and quality. Simply set the jar in some warm water (not too hot); after a short amount of time it will go runny again. We offer soft set honey, utilising another natural process in which we control the granulation process to make a thicker and creamier texture.
Is your packaging eco-friendly?
Yes. Our honey comes in glass jars, with aluminium lids and recycled paper and card – all of which are widely recycled. We don’t use any plastic in our packaging, no bubble wrap, no plastic shipping bags and no plastic sellotape. We are committed to striving towards zero carbon beekeeping and using recyclable packaging is a very important part of this.
